Check HDR playback on your Apple device
HDR playback depends on the video, your device and the screen it reaches. Start with a known HDR file on the device’s own display, then check external screens or AirPlay separately.

Start with a known HDR video
Resolution alone does not tell you whether a video is HDR. A 4K video can be SDR, and a title may offer versions with different color formats. Check the properties of the actual file you selected.
Use a video you own or have permission to play, and keep the same file while troubleshooting. Switching between different versions makes a comparison harder to interpret.
Check the screen and connection
A device that can install Calyx TV does not necessarily have an HDR-capable screen. Check the display specifications for your particular iPhone, iPad, Mac or external monitor.
For an external screen, the monitor, adapter, cable and connection must support the HDR mode you want to use. On Mac, check System Settings → Displays for the HDR options offered for that display.
Make a useful playback comparison
Calyx TV supports HDR output on supported devices and displays. The result still depends on the file, playback configuration and current display conditions.
- Play a known HDR file on the device’s built-in display, if that display supports HDR.
- Keep brightness and viewing conditions consistent while comparing the same scene.
- If you are using an external display, check the Mac display settings and the monitor’s own HDR setting.
- Test AirPlay separately. The receiving device and playback route affect the result, so a successful local test does not guarantee the same output on another screen.
If the picture is dim or washed out
First confirm that the selected video version is HDR and that the screen is operating in an HDR-capable mode. Then try the same file locally to separate a display or connection issue from a different video version.
If one file looks wrong while another known HDR file looks right under the same conditions, keep that distinction in your report. If the problem appears only on an external screen or AirPlay, mention that route.
- Record the device model, operating system and Calyx TV version.
- Include the video’s format and whether the issue affects one file or several.
- For an external display, include the monitor model and how it is connected.
- Describe what you see: dim highlights, gray blacks, unusual colors or a difference between screens.
